Dear Scholars, Alumni and Friends:
The Foundation marks the end of an era with today’s retirement announcement by Beth Freeman, Director of Scholar Relations.
As some of those receiving this e-mail can attest, Beth has served the Foundation since its inception. Originally named Foundation Administrator in 1988, she handled administrative matters for the Foundation essentially single-handedly for the first twelve years of its existence. Subsequently named Director of Scholar Relations in 2002, Beth has managed a population growth from just 17 Scholars in 1988 to a total of 993 Scholars enrolled currently.
Often referred to as the “face” of the Foundation, Beth has, over the years, counseled, encouraged, and managed scholarships for over 3,248 Terry Scholars.
As the long-time Executive Assistant to Founder Howard L. Terry, Beth was hired initially in 1984 by Mr. Terry as an executive secretary. After a career with Mr. Terry that now marks three decades -- in a role that expanded far beyond what she could have ever imagined -- she is often reminded by co-workers of a quote from Mr. Terry in his later years (referring to Beth’s long-time dedicated service) when he would smile and observe “Yeah, I think we’ll keep her…”
The Foundation extends grateful thanks and fond best wishes to a faithful employee who will be missed by co-workers and Scholar Alumni alike.
Beth’s last day in the Foundation offices will be Friday, December 13th, after which Beth reports that she is looking forward to spending more time with her grandchildren and also traveling. Until that time, she can be reached at email@example.com. After that date, friends and Scholar Alumni are encouraged to keep in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org.
