Tech to Town
In partnership with the Phillips 66 SHIELD Scholars, the Golden Key International Honour Society, Helene DeVitt Jones Scholars, and the Terry Scholars, we are hosting a Leadership Book Club. We will be meeting online.
We would like for you to be a part of our 8 session leadership book club.
We are reading the classic “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie. This 275 page book is packed full of advice on how to get along smoothly with others while gaining what you want.
Tonight Chef Dewey from Texas Tech Hospitality treated Tech Terry Scholars to an amazing demonstration of 4 different fantastic hors d'oeuvres, each one amazing and unique. It is always so enjoyable to learn new and delicious things outside of the classroom.
Today's Terry day was a day full of information, food and fun! The day began with a game where new terry's put stickers with random celebrities on their head in an attempt to guess who they were. Some of the more entertaining guesses were Oprah, Kliff Kingsbury, and our very own (and very patriotic) Kyle Wolfe. Next, the Terry Foundation funded pizza and drinks for the Terry Mentors and their mentees to snack on. This was followed by the Terry Mentors covering issues that ranged from the Lubbock area to student finances. By the end of the day, much was learned and much fun was had by all!

Re: Orientation Program
The annual orientation program is scheduled for Friday, August 23, 2013, in Lubbock. Please remember that this is a MANDATORY function for all Terry Scholars. Dress is casual.
If you are a newly selected 2013 Terry Scholar (freshman or transfer), you must arrive and check in between 12:30-1:00 p.m. in Rawls BA CR 105 (http://tour.ba.ttu.edu/1st/). You will be attending an orientation program (including dinner) that will last until approximately 4:30 p.m. This program will provide you with important information about your scholarship and give you the opportunity to learn more about the Terry Foundation.
If you are a continuing Terry Scholar (and you have previously attended a Terry Foundation orientation), you must check in between 3:15-3:30 p.m. in RCOBA 103 (http://tour.ba.ttu.edu/1st/). You will join your fellow Terry Scholars for dinner. Please take this opportunity to make all of our new Terry Scholars feel welcome to our program. Please note that this is a different location than last year.
Please note: laptops, iPads, or other similar devices are not allowed at Foundation events. Similarly, do not text or use PDA's during the event program. Please limit any non-emergent texting or phone use at any time during the event in order to concentrate on the program content and your opportunity to network with other Scholars.
The program is expected to end at approximately 4:30 p.m. for all Scholars. All students will be required to stay until the completion of the program.
Orientation is for Scholars only - no guests can be accommodated. We look forward to seeing you there.
