ORGANIZE YOUR FINANCIAL AID DOCUMENTS

2/15/2016

It’s a good idea to get organized before you start the process of applying for college student financial aid. Set aside a drawer or file cabinet to hold the documents that you will need to apply for financial aid so you don’t find yourself having to rummage through stacks of paper every time you fill out an application.

DOCUMENTS NEEDED FOR FAFSA
You will need the following information to complete the FAFSA financial aid forms necessary for determining federal student financial aid eligibility. Many scholarship and state programs will also require copies of or information from these documents.
  • Social security number
  • Drivers license
  • W-2 and 1099 forms
  • Most recent federal tax return
  • Records of your family’s untaxed income from the past year(for example, Social Security, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Veteran’s benefits, welfare, etc.)
  • Most recent bank statements
  • Business income records
  • Mortgage information
  • Investment information (stocks, bonds, etc)
  • For Non-US citizens, a permanent resident card or alien registration number
  • Dependent students will need all information for themselves and their parents
  • Married students will have to supply information for themselves and their spouses
ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS
If you plan to apply for any scholarships or other types of financial aid assistance, it is a good idea to keep these additional documents with the information you will need to complete the FAFSA:
  • High school transcripts
  • Transcripts for previous college work
  • Contact information for references
  • Copies of letters of recommendation
  • A current resume
  • Scholarship application essays
  • Statement of career goals
  • Any other relevant documentation

As students, we are fortunate. We are fortunate not only as recipients of the Terry Foundation Scholarship, but that we were chosen as Terry Scholars for Texas Tech University. We were chosen for this place, and this place is unique.

Lubbock, and by extension, Texas Tech University is privileged to be the gateway to the Llano Estacado and the American Southwest. This region is home to a dynamic landscape, an ever-changing climate, and a hard-working, honest people. This land is historically a land of frontiers, fostering a culture of optimism and freedom. Life on the Llano Estacado is unhindered by the stuffy expectations and rigidity of urban centers.

The settlers of this place were free to forge their own destiny. And so are we.

The lands that project out from this point are vibrant and full of life. The students emerge from this place are too. Here we are free to learn, create and grow, rewarded each evening with a West Texas sunset. We invite you to share in our love for Lubbock this evening as we celebrate the generous gift of the Terry Foundation Scholarship. It brought us here.

Dear TTU Terry Scholar:

Our annual fall banquet is set for Friday, October 18, 2013, on campus in the McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center (located at 17th & University Avenue,  Lubbock, TX 79409-5001). The Terry Foundation Directors, Advisory Board Members, and invited guests will attend the reception and dinner. Attendance is mandatory for all Scholars.

A commercial photographer will be present beginning at 5:00 p.m. to take individual pictures for the 2013-14 annual. The photography will continue during the reception with dinner to follow. This will be your only opportunity to be photographed for the annual, so please dress appropriately (business professional).

Scholars are required to stay until the conclusion of the event at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Please note: laptops, iPads, or other similar devices are not allowed at Foundation events. Similarly, do not text or use PDA's during the event program. Please limit any non-emergent texting or phone use at any time during the event in order to concentrate on the program content and your opportunity to network with other Scholars.

Do not reply to this email. If you have a conflict, a class, or other questions, it is imperative that you contact Beth Freeman well in advance of the event at beth.freeman@terryfoundation.org.

You may also let Ms. Freeman know if you prefer a vegetarian plate.

We look forward to seeing and visiting with each of you.

Sincerely,

Yvonne R. Moody, Executive Director
The Terry Foundation

Terry Foundation Orientation

8/27/2013

Today was a busy day for things Terry. The Terry Foundation team themselves paid a visit to "their favorite" Texas Tech University. They were here to explain what it means to be a Terry Scholar, how to be successful in your first year on campus, and to allow all of the Texas Tech Terry's to mingle. All 94 Terry's were present for the orientation and were engaged in both the group session and the individual breakout session which split freshmen Terry scholars and Transfer Terry students. Here are a few of the moments captured from this exciting day.

Dress Code: Orientation

Wondering what to wear to the Terry Foundation Orientation?

 What is business casual anyway?

Business casual is crisp, neat, and should look appropriate even for a chance meeting with a CEO. It should NOT look like cocktail or party or picnic attire. Avoid tight or baggy clothing; business casual is classic rather than trendy.

You will join your fellow Terry Scholars for dinner. Please take this opportunity to make all of our new Terry Scholars feel welcome to our program.  Please note that this is a different location than last year.
