Leadership series with steve haberly

On February 20th, Steve Haberly, the President of Chem-Aqua came to speak to the Terry Scholars for our Leadership Series. We are very grateful for the wisdom he shared with us regarding success. Some of the major points he shared include:
  • Maturity is accepting responsibility for your actions.
  • Good is no longer good enough--it is becoming blurred with average. Therefore we have to strive to be great.
  • Crazy, innovative people are vital to the success of a company.
  • The more rare, the more valuable. Conversely, the more common, the more that is expected, and the object decreases in value.
  • Behavior rewarded is behavior repeated, while behavior expected becomes the new standard.
  • Success is comprised of talent, skill, and history.  
  • Imitation is a trap.
  • Separation what you are good at from what you are not.
  • Customers see different as better.
  • Good leaders are active listeners.
  • Create distinction--know who you are and who you are not.
  • Revolution is more important and more successful than gradual evolution.
  • Winners are fully engaged, game changers, energized, emotionally connected, mentally fused, and spiritually aligned.
  • Passion sells. 
  • Your brain creates what it thinks about most. (I think therefore I am). Therefore, your attitude is a magnet, an energy not to be taken lightly.
  • You see what you expect to see, including opportunities and chances. 
  • Energy is the currency of success . Combine energy with skills and talent, and you will have a recipe for ignition.
  • Strive for 1) Clarity of identity, 2) Innovation (and its execution), 3) Connection (and make sure to catch disconnection early).
