Fellow Terrys!
Congrats to you all for making it through your first semester at Tech! This is a real accomplishment and I hope you all met or exceeded your academic goals. Now I realize the dust hasn't yet settled from the fall semester but I wanted to send out a reminder that the scholarship application is OPEN for the 2014-2015 academic year, and that the deadline is February 1st! So please, please set a reminder on your phone calendar - or add a note into your planner/organizer for early January to address this issue. Personally I recommend handling your application ASAP to get it out of the way, because once January rolls around and classes are getting fired-up again, the new flavor of madness will begin. Do yourself a favor and don't procrastinate on this issue, as there are many great resources available to us all. So here are some important dates and links: Feb 1st 2014 Applications for 2014-15 scholarships for current Red Raiders need to be submitted by Feb 1st 2014: http://www.financialaid.ttu.edu/forms/sch/CurrentRedRaiders1415.pdf The third section from the top has a link to the application - just click and get started Feb 15th 2014 Your FAFSA application must be completed and submitted no later than 02/15/2014 http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ This application is ESSENTIAL as not only is it required by the Terry Foundation as part of your annual commitment and assessment, it also allows you to be considered for needs-based scholarships. As an FYI, when you submit your Red Raider scholarship application (on time!), you will automatically be paired to scholarships that your are eligible for. If you do not submit your FAFSA, you WILL NOT be considered for needs-based scholarships. Period. So please don't handicap your opportunities by failing to complete this mandatory step on time. It would be such a shame to lose this privilege for no good reason. In addition to the scholarship opportunities presented through Texas Tech's scholarship office, there are numerous external opportunities that can be pursued. Under Ms. Medley's direction I am trying to set up meetings with Helen Carter and Ms. Fallwell so I can better understand the additional resources available, and effective methods to pursue them. I will update you all with my findings once I have spoken to Ms. Carter and Ms. Fallwell respectively. Also, Ms. Fallwell generously proposed (to Ms. Medley) to host a talk on how to secure "big money" from external scholarship sources. With Ms. Medley's assistance I think we should try and set this up as early in January as possible. If you would be interested in attending something like this, please let me know and I will get the ball rolling immediately. Here is a document that covers FAQ's regarding TTU Scholarships: http://www.financialaid.ttu.edu/forms/sch/TTU_ScholarshipFactSheet_1314.pdf And lastly, here are a few scholarship opportunities that I found on Tech Announce (another good place to find opportunities - of all kinds!) http://techannounce.ttu.edu/Client/ViewMessage.aspx?MsgId=159634 http://techannounce.ttu.edu/Client/ViewMessage.aspx?MsgId=159635 http://techannounce.ttu.edu/Client/ViewMessage.aspx?MsgId=159636 http://techannounce.ttu.edu/Client/ViewMessage.aspx?MsgId=159637 I hope everyone was successful in registering for the classes they needed/wanted and can relax into a great Christmas and a happy new year. Best wishes, Simon
